Author, essayist, and environmentalist, Edward Abbey gives a talk and reads from his essays and books during an appearance at the Telluride Ideas Festival on August 17, 1986. Abbey is perhaps best known for his radical stance on public land policy and supposed support for eco-terrorism. A true iconoclast, Abbey has been condemned and praised by mainstream environmentalists and conservative Western ranchers alike. He was a pro-gun, anti-immigration, self-declared desert anarchist, who thrived on controversy and was unyielding in his advocacy for wilderness protection. In this program he reads from a lifetime worth of writings, including his best known novel about eco-sabotage, “The Monkey Wrench Gang”. At the end of the reading, Abbey entertains questions from the audience.

It's great to finally hear Edward's voice after years of enjoying his writings. The recording is very clear and Abbey's selections are great. His ideas
